A second look - Hackney in Photography in 1890's, 1970's and today

The west side of Mare Street

The west side of Mare Street, from the Cock Tavern to Hackney Railway Station railway bridge. Taken from the north corner of Morning Lane, from almost the same spot as the previous photograph, about twenty years earlier, but the road was then very much narrower, in fact only as wid as the present Narrow Way. Date, 1887 in midsummer, when Queen Victoria's fiftieth anniversary Jubilee was being celebrated, hence the flags.
